Social Media Celebrates #bumpday
Bringing Maternal Health Awareness to the World
On July 22nd What to Expect When You’re Expecting author Heidi Murkoff teamed up with WhatToExpect.com, International Medical Corps, 1,000 Days, and the United Nations Foundation to establish #bumpday. Over 49,000 Instagram users joined in using social media for the cause, posting their bump pics to celebrate the “day to celebrate that sisterhood of motherhood, those beautiful bumps, those beautiful babies, that beautiful promise of a beautiful beginning. It’s also a day to generate awareness about the challenges moms face trying to give their babies the best start — and the simple solutions that can help them overcome those challenges.”
Maternal health is one of eight Millennium Development Goals created by the United Nations to address the need to provide basic human rights to all populations, and for good reason! The World Health Organization statistics show that more than 800 women globally die each day from preventable causes related to childbirth and pregnancy and many of those would have been prevented if only for better education on maternal health.
We as parents know that parents only want the best for their children so we applaud the #bumpday initiative and look forward to joining in next year and increasing awareness even further.
Celebrate your bump by documenting your pregnancy with tweekaboo and sharing securely with friends and family.
